Lip Blush

Healing Process & Aftercare

Yay! You've completed a Permanent Makeup Procedure for your lips, which you have probably been considering for a long time. We are truly excited for you!

As excited and happy as you must initially feel about your immediate results, you might also be feeling anxious and worried about what's to come next. The permanent makeup healing process can be an emotional rollercoaster. Because of this, it is important that you prepare for it properly and read about all the healing stages and side effects. This way, you won’t be caught off guard and you’ll deal with it more easily.

We wish that the results you saw immediately after the first appointment were the final results, but the truth is that the actual results of the first session won't be seen until 4-6 weeks from your first appointment. The actual final results will be seen until after you are done healing from your touch-up session, which will also be another 4-6 weeks.

If you feel desperate when you see how dark, irritated, patchy, faded, etc. your lips become after each appointment, go online and search for pictures of lip blush permanent makeup healing process.

You will see that it just takes some time for them to settle in. Remember that for optimal results, it is crucial to have a touch-up done. It is very difficult to predict how well your skin will retain the pigment. The touch-up will help reinforce any pigment that is left and you also have the option to adjust the shape, color, etc. of your healed results at a touch-up appointment.

Remember that you are expected to lose 30-50% of the first initial pigment results. If you lose more than this, we can discuss different techniques at your follow-up appointment that will hopefully yield to better, longer lasting results. To ensure that you don't lose more than the normal amount, it is imperative that you follow all aftercare instructions STRICTLY. We wish you the best in this crazy journey that the healing process is and remember that we are here if you have any questions or concerns!

OVERVIEW OF THE NEXT 30 DAYS:

Lip Aftercare Instructions:

During your healing (normally 10 days):

  • Drink fluids with a straw.
  • Stay away from salty and spicy foods contacting your lips directly to prevent irritation and early lifting of your pigment.
  • Cut your food into small pieces.
  • No teeth whitening and no peroxide toothpastes should get on the scab.
  • Limit facial expressions to avoid scabs from falling off prematurely.

Things to note: This procedure can trigger cold sores if you are a carrier of this virus. To prevent cold sores from flaring up, it is recommended to go to your doctor and get Zovirax or another antiviral medication prescribed and follow your doctor's instructions. Note that a cold sore outbreak can alter the healed results of the tattoo.

  • Day 1

A small amount of the recommended ointment can be applied after the service is completed on the lips. After every hour post service, blot lymph fluid from lips as needed with a clean paper towel. Apply a minimal amount of ointment after blotting the lymph fluid only if the lips feel tight or dry with a clean Q-tip using tapping motion.

Use an ice pack (wrapped in a clean paper towel) during the first 24 hours after the procedure if your lips feel swollen. You can discontinue using the ice pack after 24 hours as it will no longer be effective.

  • Before bed

You may cleanse your lips with a cotton gauze with unscented soap and room temperature water. Gently tap, do not rub back and forth. Make sure your lips are patted dry with a clean paper towel and then apply a minimal amount of ointment with a clean Q-tip using tapping motion.

  • Days 2-10

You may gently clean your lips morning and night with room temperature water and unscented soap, but try to stay away from soaking the lips with excessive water and apply a minimal amount of aftercare ointment after cleansing. Do not touch the scab or pick at it, if you do it may create scars. Stay away from all products on or around your lips with the exception of the recommended ointment and cleansing unscented soap for at least 10 days post service.

Your questions, answered:

How much oinment should I apply?

Reapply ointment as needed only when eyebrows feel dry or when skin feels tight. The amount should be about the size of a rice grain. Too much ointment will cause the scab to lift prematurely and affect the healing process as well as color retention.

Can I take a shower?

You can but try your best to avoid long, steamy showers. Do not get your lips soaking wet, especially with hot water, for the next 10 days in the shower.

Can I use Vaseline as an ointment for my healing?

Do not use Vaseline. Vaseline or 100% petroleum as it suffocates the skin and does not promote proper healing for the skin. We recommend Aquaphor.

Can I get a facial or use exfoliating products around my brows during healing?

Stay away from facials for at least 4 weeks. Do not use chemical/physical exfoliants/microdermabrasion & retinol on your lips. This includes AHA (glycolic acid, lactic acid..) & BHA (salicylic acid). This will cause the pigment to fade.

Can I exercise, do yoga, or workout if I don't sweat?

Avoid excessive sweating for the next 10 days. This includes working out, saunas & steam rooms. The salt in sweat can pull pigment out from the skin & result in uneven healing/uneven color retention.

What will happen if I peel the scabs?

Do not peel, pick, scratch, or rub the scabs. Peeling the scabs can result in uneven healing, uneven color retention, and scarring.

Is it normal if I don't scab?

Yes, everyone heals differently. The healing stages listed above are for reference only. Not everyone will go through the same healing stages as healing varies due to many factors such as age, skin type, immune system, aftercare etc.

Can I apply makeup on or around my lips?

Do not apply any cosmetics/makeup onto your lips for at least 10 days. Try to avoid applying cosmetics around the area to keep it as clean as possible for at least 10 days.

Is it normal for the pigment to look irregular after 4 weeks?

Yes, your lips will look irregular and uneven as they begin to heal. This is why a touch-up is recommended no later than 4-8 weeks from your initial appointment. At your touch-up appointment we will be able to put the color back and make modifications as needed.
